Relaince recently launched its in India. Consumers will certainly benefit from a company like Reliance coming in to this market as Reliance is known to rewrite the rules of business everywhere it goes.

It is certainly expected to kick in tough competition to the currently number one provider, TataSky.  Though there are other services like DishTV in India which provide similar services, failed to compete with at some level.

We just reviewed Reliance’s offers and found them much more attractive than what or DishTV are currently offering. ’s packages are smartly designed to attract customers when compared to packages from TataSkya and DishTV.

One of the major highlights of ’s is that they are the first providers to offer MPEG-4 in the country. This certainly puts more pressure on its competitors to offer similar services, signal quality and a lot more.

Don’t mistake, MPEG-4 to be HDTV but MPEG-4 certainly offers better signal quality than the existing providers, HDTV compresses at MPEG-2. MPEG-2 video quality is much better as it runs the video on 30 frames per second when compared to MPEG-4 which runs much less frames per second, thus compromising the picture quality when compared to MPEG-2.

MPEG-4 is the latest compression mechanism which is very popular with satellite providers as its takes half as bandwidth when compared to MPEG-2 which saves reduces the bandwidth and infrastructure cost of these companies, however, MPEG-4 comes with its own set of incompatibility issues with existing HDTV equipment which manufactures are trying to address as MPEG-4 is becoming more popular.

Alright, that’s that about MPEG-2 and MPEG-4…

With the launch of Reliance , we should expect to lot of new technologies and offerings coming to Indian satellite market such as Personal Video Recorders (PVR), access to international channels from countries like US and Australia, etc…
